Vinyl Siding Maintenance
Vinyl siding is a popular choice for many home exteriors. While vinyl siding can be damaged by hail, vinyl siding is really very durable. It resists fading, is weatherproof, and cannot be damaged by termites or other pests. In many cases, vinyl siding is also wind resistant.
Vinyl siding is also very popular because it is economical. It is also available in many colors and textures, which gives homeowners the ability to customize their home to their desired look and specifications. It can also be installed over your existing exterior for a fast update of your home!
Although vinyl siding is very durable, it still requires routine maintenance and care to keep your home looking its best. These tips from Scott Exteriors can help you care for your vinyl siding:
Inspect Your Property. Routine checks of your siding should be performed at least twice a year. Looking for punctures, cracks, or pieces that may have become loosened during storms. It is important to make sure your siding is in good repair in order to prevent damage from weather or pests.
Remove Potential Problems. During your inspection, also take note of any plants or trees that may rub against your house. These plants and trees can cause cracks or punctures to your vinyl siding over time. Cut back any vegetation that may cause damage.
Keep it Clean. You should clean your vinyl siding at least once per year. Using a stiff bristled brush and soapy water. You can use a mild soap, like Dawn dishwashing soap. Scrub your siding to remove dirt, debris, and cobwebs. Be sure to rinse thoroughly when done, as soap residue can attract dirt and leave your home looking dirty or older.
You can use a power washer to also clean your siding. If you choose to use a power washer, be sure to follow your machine’s instructions regarding vinyl siding.
